Laying Your New Turf

Install your turf immediately upon arrival for best results. In hot humid condition you will need to protect unlaid turf by placing pallots in the shade and hosing off.

Commence laying your turf along a longest straight edge such as a driveway or path. Neatly butt turf to the edges and place ends against each other tightly but do not stretch turf. Do not overlap turf and avoid leaving any spaces between the slabs.

Continue laying turf in a brick like fashion, staggering the joints in each row. Use a sharp serrated knife to trim corners, edges around trees. If laying turf on a slope, make sure you place the turf across the slope.

After installation water your turf to a depth of 100mm or until ponding is obvious within 30 minutes of installation. This initial soaking is really important for the establishment of your turf. Then water generously for the next 12-14 days to encourage good root establishment, after this watering can be tapered back to a good soaking twice a week during dry spells. This method will encourage turf to establish a deep robust drought tolerant root system.

Mowing should commence 2-3 weeks after laying. Heights will vary, as a basic guide the following mowing heights are recomended.

Wintergreen   25-35mm
Sapphire   25-70mm
Velvetene   8-15mm

TIP - Light frequent watering will encourage a fragile shallow root system. Mowing should commence 2-3 weeks after laying. Heights will vary, as a basic guide:
